The head of this axe is from the early or mid 1800's, and was found in Pennsylvania. This type of ice axe is used on farms to open streams for stock to
drink. Quite robustly constructed. Tempering for hardness is evident on both the axe edge and the tip of the back blade. Mounted on a reclaimed vintage hickory handle, this axe is still a sturdy tool.
